APRIL Update

“Pivots” we have found is a fancy word for “hmm. We need to try something different here”

While in the middle of value engineering in March, we realized that our GC (General Contractor), while nice and talented, just wasn’t going to be the best fit for our project.

In the moment it was disappointing and sigh inducing.

(Do you like going back to the drawing board?)

But we needed someone we could see really partnering with us for the long term and with more experience in navigating our complex terrain, huge windows, and unconventional desire to minimize the impact on the forest (not standard in building, unfortunately).

So back to the drawing board we went.

While we can’t give all the details right now, because we are still finalizing with our new GC, we can say:

WOW. We are so grateful for the pivot.

Our new GC has really filled in the areas that we needed and BONUS — they also own a welding shop AND custom wood working studio, so we’re already planning/dreaming for some custom pieces in our unit that we are confident will add to your experience of it.

In other news:

  • Fire and Safety has had good progress and we’ve finalized on the sprinkler design and a company to install them. Two big hurdles we had been working through

  • Round 2 of value engineering was complete and our new GC is getting us an updated cost to build quote.

  • Land disturbance and septic permits remain complete and ready to be acted on

  • Utility companies are in place and ready to go for once we break ground.
